As we watched the dreadful pictures of the Katrina victims in different parts of the gulf, particularly the sad and sometimes shocking pictures of those stranded in New Orleans, it never occurred to me that there would be anything good we might see come out of this. Almost a complete city destroyed, countless lives lost, along with other lives changed forever. And as I received word that we had family members involved in the nightmare, that belief seemed to be strengthened. But there is a lovely light at the end of this dark tunnel.
The outpouring of help that has come from this situation was something that one has to experience at least one time in a lifetime to renew one’s faith in humanity. Family, friends, friends of friends, even strangers, rushed can provide relief of not merely my family, but people in countless other families within the face of the tragedy. Our gratefulness should not be measured and the gifts of affection will be treasured.
But there was one act of kindness which was definitely surprising…and welcomed! There was 17 family members who had lost virtually everything. Of that number, five members were stranded in Mississippi without any means of transportation. They had fled their properties with almost nothing but the clothes on their own backs. We needed to get them to San Diego, Ca to my sister DiAnna’s home where they might make an effort to pull their lives together. We merely had to discover a way.
Money was pooled together, due to the kind help of many generous people. We thought about the bus, but that wouldn’t work. These people were not running. Then, my hardworking sister discovered another route: Delta Air Lines. She discovered Delta was discounting their flights for Katrina victims looking to get for the safety of the families. Whatever they could do would have been welcomed and my spouse Lisa and that i were willing to constitute the difference. They just needed to find transportation to Jackson, which was 90 minutes away.
To our comfort, the Delta representative–Margaret–was an angel. Delta could discount their normal ticket fee by over 85%! Which was more than anyone might have reasonably expected! All things considered, Delta Airlines complaints is a business and their primary concern, as all businesses needs to be, is by using profit. Their job is to provide you with the best service with a profit. But in a disaster, when the choice came down to lives versus making a profit, they chose lives in this case. I used to be impressed and then there is undoubtedly a moral and business lesson to get learned from their choice.
It comes with an old business adage that each salesperson has heard in seminars, sales meetings, and courses: People don’t care just how much you understand until they understand exactly how much you care. I don’t think I am going to ever hear qudbxw phrase again without thinking about the kindness proven to us by Delta Air Lines. Sometimes, you must put profit aside–even though partly–when it is necessary to serve your customer. They will appreciate it and they can always remember it. Why? Since they know you care.
Should you be prepared to begin a career as being a flight attendant Delta is surely an opportunity. To apply for a Delta job the age is 21 years minimum as well as the educational requirement needed are at least a H.S. diploma.
